Moon Over Buffalo

Student-directed and adapted by David Perez
October 16-18, 2015

Moon Over Buffalo is the story of an acting couple on tour in Buffalo in 1953 struggling to perform while dealing with family crises and the possibility of a Hollywood director’s visit.  It’s one of those plays that shows the scenes behind the onstage scenes. In Moon Over Buffalo, there are really three plays intertwined with each other. And, being a farce, you have all the craziness that includes five doors opening and closing, people hiding in closets, half-dressed actors, near misses in running into people who are hiding, mistaken identities and mass confusion. Timing is everything…and as the show goes on the timing gets better and better.

This show will be taken into a One Act Competition on October 24, good luck!

SWAG is fast approaching

In 2008, Pope High School successfully launched a new community service program called Shop with a Greyhound, or as we fondly call it, SWAG.   By joining our efforts, you are committing to be one of “Santa’s Helpers”.  You will be responsible for raising money in order to take children from Brumby Elementary School shopping for the Holidays.

When is the big day this year?

On December 12, 2015, we will host our 8th annual SWAG event.  By registering, you will be dedicating your time and energy on a Brumby child as they enjoy activities here at Pope as well as shopping at Target.  Our goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of these children.

What do I have to do to sign up?

In order to register, you need to visit Pope’s website and complete the online SWAG application.  Then print the permission form, complete it, and turn it in with your $65 donation (see registration for donation details) to room 118 in a sealed envelope.  All 3 things (online registration, permission form, and money) must be turned in by October 29th.  Only the first 400 applicants will be accepted.

Why do we do this?

It is our belief that Pope students should provide service and leadership to our community.  SWAG is a great community service outreach project that generates good will in the community, yields service hours for Pope club members, and provides the less fortunate with a much needed special day during the holiday season.

Important Dates:

Wednesday, September 30th- online registration opens Thursday, October 29th – online registration, permission form and money due

Wednesday, December 9th - SWAG meeting during x-block in theater

Saturday, December 12th- SWAG (12:30pm-6:30pm)

Thanks-for-Giving Drive

The Octagon, Interact, and NHS clubs along with the Media Center are hosting the annual Thanks-for-Giving Food Drive for the Cobb Center for Family Resources. This is the 30th anniversary of the Thanks-for-Giving program, which gives families here in Cobb all the makings of a traditional Thanksgiving meal to take home and prepare with their families. We are also collecting extra food items that will last the families throughout the holiday week.

Every fall, thousands of families struggle to keep food on the table. Thanksgiving week can be even more financially stressful when students are home from school for more than just the holiday meal.

Lastly, this is a competition for local schools. Last year, Pope won our division with a collection of over 2000 food items and over $200 in gift cards! I have set up a competition between my classes (for homemade cookies). Please have students bring donations to room 212.

Let’s make this year’s donation bigger than last year’s! And WIN! Go Hounds! Click here for more details...
