Writing: Going from Good to Great

We are thrilled to share an exciting opportunity with you! As part of an integrated school-wide effort to focus on writing, we are offering a 5-week intensive writing workshop that Pine Mountain Middle School has developed to help our students who scored proficient on last year's Milestones so that they extend their skills even further. This workshop will occur March 5- April 12. The goal of this special class is to move these students to the next achievement level on this year's Milestones.

We are also providing specialized instruction through our REACH class that focuses on students who have high reading inventory scores and lower writing scores on the Milestones. In addition, all students are receiving focused writing support in all content areas through implementing the RACES writing strategy. We want our students to be as successful as possible with their writing skills. It is our hope that these specfic interventions at the school level will assist our students in meeting this objective. For questions about the RACES writing strategy please contact your students ELA teacher. For more information about the writing workshop, please contact Mrs. Marranda Edwards.

Feedback Wanted

We need your help! Each year the Georgia Department of Education sends out a survey to the parents of the schools in Georgia to get feedback. A lot of people don't know that the results of the survey are actually used to help determine part of our school's CCRPI score. Last year our score was 69.4. We are working hard this year to try and improve our score, and we need your help by taking the survey for this year. The Georgia Parent Survey contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphone, or tablet. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within the survey. Click here to take the Georgia Parent Survey.  Thanks for your help in continuing to make Pine Mountain Middle School a great place for our kids to learn!

Parents also had an opportunity to voice comments or questions that they may have had. If you were not able come, always feel free to contact our Principal or our Coffee and Conversations Parent Volunteer, Stephanie Barringer. Our second Coffee and Conversations will be Monday, March 11 from 9:00-10:00am.

Cobb Schools to Roll Out New Parent Portal in January

During the October 18 Board of Education meeting, Cobb County School District leaders discussed the January launch of a new parent portal—CTLS Parent—that will show parents what their child knows and provide resources to help their child master other content areas. Initially, CTLS Parent will roll out to a select group of schools to serve as a proof-of-concept. The District will collect feedback from parents and teachers before CTLS Parent is expanded to all schools. Click here to read more.

PMMS Band Program Selected for Southeastern Regional Concert Festival

The Pine Mountain music department is pleased to announce that the 8 Grade Band has been selected to perform at the 2018 Music for All Southeastern Regional Concert Festival this spring!! An overwhelming number of bands from all around the South submitted recordings, and Pine Mountain was one of only 9 middle schools selected. We are the only Cobb County middle school that was selected to perform at the event this year. We will travel to downtown Atlanta and perform in the beautiful Georgia State University Rialto Center. This is a HUGE milestone for the PMMS band program, and we could not be more proud of our students for their hard work! It’s a great day to be a Mustang!
