New Bus Pass Policy:

Effective Monday, April 9 we will no longer allow students to ride home on a different bus than assigned. This policy change is due to the high volume of riders this year. Students will be permitted to ride their assigned bus and get off at another stop provided they have a note from their parent and a pass from the office. Any exceptions to this rule must be approved by the Cobb County Transportation Department. We appreciate your copperation as we work to make sure all of our students arrive home safely.

Bullying vs. Teasing:

Please visit the website Understanding Playful vs. Hurtful Teasing and Bullying Behavior" to understand the difference between bullying and playful behavior.

Mabry Middle School Receives Award:

Thirty-seven Cobb County schools have been honored for academic success by the Georgia Department of Education and the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement. The awards are based on student performance on the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT, for elementary and middle schools) and the Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT, for high schools).

These state assessments help determine a school’s Adequate Yearly Progress status. Each award has four honor levels – Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze – that correspond to a school’s consistent performance and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) status.

The Highest Performance award is given to schools that have a very high percentage of students meeting test standards.

We are proud to announce that Mabry Middle school has received Gold status this year!

Congratulations are also in order for our feeder pattern:
Garrison Mill: Platinum
Rocky Mount: Gold
Davis: Silver
Lassiter: Platinum

Parking Lot Helpful Hints:

Procedures:

Information about Procedures for morning drop off and dismissal.

Hot or cold temperatures and precipitation result in more parents driving their children to school. This means increased traffic during the morning and afternoon drop-off and pickup times. To ensure that all students are safe, please adhere to the following procedures:

  • Upon entering school property, continue down the drive to the turn-around circle. This increases the number of cars which can que in the drive of the school, alleviating traffic on Jims Road. This procedure should be followed in the morning and the afternoon.
  • The upper parking lot should be used when there is a need to park and come into the building.
  • Do not double park in the parking lot.

Thank you for your assistance.

Letters to the Troops:

Mabry Middle School participated in Radio Station Q100's Big Thank You. This started as a writing opportunity for our student body but quickly turned into a show of patriotism by our school community. In addition to writing letters, students began creating bulletin boards, making letter drop boxes and producing videos. We set a goal of 1000 letters but surpassed it with 1308 letters. The beauty and kindness of students was shown throughout the written letters. A true understanding of the sacrifices being made for our freedom was discovered. This was much more than a letter writing campaign it was a lesson in human compassion. We have continued our out reach by collecting candy for the troops. We invite others to join us in showing our gratitude and support to the troops.

Second Step

At the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year, Mabry Middle School began piloting the Second Step© Anti-Violence program along with best practices in bullying behavior as a proactive measure. All students participated in lessons to develop our definition of bullying behavior. Our school wide definition for bullying is:

Bullying is when one or more people repeatedly harm, harass, intimidate, or exclude others. Bullying is unfair and one-sided.

If you would like more information about our program, feel free to contact Tammy White or Cindy Jackson in the counseling department.

Be There Campaign:
Cobb County has teamed up with thirteen other metropolitan school districts to promote the Be There campaign sponsored by WSB-TV.

The purpose of this campaign is to promote parent involvement in school. Studies have shown that when you connect with your child everyday, your child benefits for life. When he or she knows you care and are concerned about education, the following occurs:

  • Achievement in school improves; students earn higher grades and test scores and enroll in higher-level programs
  • Children want to go to school
  • Courses are passes, credits earned and students are promoted to the next grade
  • Self-confidence improves

To learn more about the Be There campaign, please visit their site:
