Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS)

On September 21, 2011, State Superintendent of Education, John D. Barge, along with staff in the GA Department of Education Curriculum and Instruction division, hosted a web-delivered broadcast through Georgia Public Broadcasting to introduce to all stakeholders the upcoming Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS).

To provide you with a brief history, the state of Georgia, along with 47 other states, has adopted a new set of standards that are geared towards unifying the standards that are used from state to state and enabling students to be college & 21st century workplace and career ready upon graduating from high school.

All initial broadcasts and replays will be aired through this link.

Audience:  All stakeholders including staff, parents, students and the community are invited to view this broadcast.

Washington DC_2011

Effective September 7, 2010, students will not be permitted to return to classrooms after 2:45 pm to retrieve forgotten items such as homework, lunch boxes, book bags, etc. Teachers may leave the campus at 2:45 pm, therefore sending students to rooms without someone present is a concern for our staff and for the security of our students. Please be advised that ASP workers and custodians will no longer be able to unlock classrooms for parents or students. Until students become acclimated to this procedure, we will provide daily reminders on the afternoon announcements.

Effective October 4, 2010, Silly Bands will not be allowed at school. Silly Bands have been the rage  this school year and students have really enjoyed them. However, they are spending an inordinate amount of time focusing on the bands in class by making trades, counting, and comparing them.  In other words, Silly Bands have become a serious distraction for many of our students.

We want our students to continue to perform at their best in order to achieve academic success, therefore, beginning October 4th we are asking parents to remind students to keep their Silly Bands at home and not bring them to school.  We thank you in advance for your understanding, support, and assistance with this matter.
