Cobb County High School High Tech Program:
Your link to a high-tech future
The High School/High Tech (HS/HT) program is designed to encourage and empower high school students who have a disability to enter into challenging high tech careers through educational enrichment and
employment opportunities.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE? YOU ARE IF YOU:
- are enrolled in a Cobb County or Marietta City high school;
- have an identified disability – sensory, medical, orthopedic, or learning;
- are intending to pursue education and training beyond high school;
- display an aptitude for and interest in technology, engineering, science, or math.
WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE?
Students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of in-school and out-of-school programs and activities designed to explore career options in computing, science, engineering, and other high-tech
fields. Activities include workshops, corporate site visits, mentoring, job shadowing, field trips, projects, competitions, summer internships and employment. Students may also be eligible for assistance with
postsecondary education and referral to other programs and agencies. Past groups have visited the Marshall Space Flight Center, the Tennessee Aquarium, Southern Polytechnic State University, Kennesaw State
University, IBM corporate headquarters, SunTrust Bank, and other places of interest.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
Complete the HS/HT Student Interest Form and have your teacher complete the Teacher Referral Form. Your teacher will forward this information to the Cobb County High School/High Tech Council. Once the Council
receives your form, you will be contacted to set up a meeting with you, your parents, and a local WIA/Youth Council representative to complete the application process.
WHAT IS THE HIGH SCHOOL/HIGH TECH COUNCIL?
HS/HT Council membership includes representatives from the local school systems, the Department of Labor, the Workforce Investment Board, Rehabilitation Services, institutions of higher education, businesses,
and parents. The Council oversees and coordinates the activities of the program. This year, the Council has arranged a field trip to Huntsville Space Center and the Tennessee Aquarium, coordinated student
participation in National Disability Mentoring Day, created a promotional video, offered training in website development, and coordinated internships with UPS, Davidson & Co., and ADP. Anyone interested in
serving on the Council is welcome to attend any regular Council meeting. Contact any of these Council members for more information.
