It is with great joy and honor that I have been chosen as Big Shanty’s Classified Employee of the Year.

I was born and raised in Miami, Florida.  My family moved to West Hollywood, Florida when it was home to orange groves, cow pastures and ranches.  It was there that I met, Mitch, “the boy next door” who eventually became my husband.  We married in 1979 and settled in central Florida.

In 1988 my husband accepted a job offer that brought us to the Kennesaw area.  We were excited to live in Cobb County and have our sons, David and Brian, attend the Cobb County Schools that were and are so highly ranked.  I started working for Cobb County Schools as a substitute teacher when my youngest was in kindergarten.  In 1997, I became a Big Shanty Kindergarten Paraprofessional, working with Billie Ann Beard.  I became the Permanent Sub for a year and in 2001 was offered the position of School Clerk.  I am now on my tenth year working in the front office.

My husband, the former boy next door, is now “my best friend by my side.”  We have two married sons, two wonderful daughter-in-laws and a beautiful granddaughter.

It is with great pleasure that I am part of the caring Big Shanty team who want to make a difference in the lives of our students by encouraging them to soar to new heights.  I love to garden, to watch things grow and flourish, just as I love to watch the Big Shanty students do the same.
